So, guys, its has been a while, but if you are desperate for news of what is new in B&Fee land…and I know you all are, you can catch me over on my Facebook Page. I would love it if you came over and visited. No, I really mean it, I would love it! My daughter and I are having a race to see who can get the most likes on our Business pages for Facebook and at the moment I am marginally in the lead. So I need your help.

Cakes, you ask. Well, a new wedding and a new novelty cake are about to be posted, along with an engagement cake, a chocolate supremo 40th birthday cake and a 21st birthday cake. So it is busy, busy, busy in B&Fee land and getting even more so and I have prepared well, as the new oven arrives this week just in time for the rush.

But like I said, visit me at Facebook to find out more. I know you wanna!

Have a great week…

Hi diddley to all of my blushing brides,

I so enjoyed meeting so many of you at the Bridal Expo in Hobart on Sunday and so sorry, it was too hectic to actually make full and meaningful conversation with any of you. We were also completely overwhelmed with the positive feedback over the display cakes, and more importantly our tasters. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

But, now the expo is over and for all of you who need information about a design for your wedding, please contact me either through this site, or through my Facebook page. And yes, the photos of the cakes that were at the expo will be up on site shortly, but I am going to pop their pictures in here until then.

Okay, okay, I was now stop rambling and get to the most important part. The winner of the $300 gift voucher towards a B&Fee wedding creation was Frances Taylor, who is getting married in March 2013.

Thanks to all of the 522 entrants. I wish I could have chosen you all.

So, I have not been around in while. But that does not mean I have not been around. For all of you that have missed me, please come and visit me at my Facebook page. I am finding it hard to keep up with all the social media and because I spend so many hours on Facebook, that seems to be getting my attention.

So come across, like me there and find out what B&Fee, this photograph and Sunday 15th April have in common. Oh, okay, I will tell you but you still have to come visit. The one thing we all have in common is the Hobart Wedding Expo and if you want to see these cuties in the flesh (or in the ceramic as the case may be), stop in and see me at my stall. You can even go in the draw to win a voucher towards a fabulous B&Fee creation.

I think this week definitely signals the start of the upcoming Bridal season for 2012/2013. Up until now most of my enquiries have been for special occasion cakes (not that a wedding is not a special occasion of course). But this week it has been all about brides. There are the uber-organised brides booking for 2013 (girls after my own heart), then there are the brides getting organised for weddings later this year (so still very organised…well done) and then there were the two enquiries from brides getting married over the next few weeks (oops…but so happy I could help them).

So, given that my kitchen is going to start turning into Wedding Central, I have also turned my attention to the upcoming Bridal Expo which is on at The Derwent Entertainment Centre on April 15. I have been looking for designs for cakes to showcase at this event and in my search, I have come across the most amazing cake designer

Maggie Austin, of Washington DC. In her bio she states she was a ballerina in a former life and her cakes replicate this as they are so contemporary with a fine attention to detail. I must say I have fallen in love, so much so I am using one of her designs for inspiration for my expo display. If you want to see for yourself, go to www.maggieaustin.com or just come to the expo. If you want a sneak peak of her designs, go to my B&Fee facebook page as I have posted some on there.

Have a great week.

If you were to wander into our yard at the moment you would be forgiven for thinking that a bomb has gone off. There are sheets of iron scattered around, old toys, including an upturned basketball hoop are laying amongst a bevy of building materials and if you look hard enough you will also see a trailer so heavily laden with bits and pieces its wheels look fit to burst. But as disorganised as it is, there is a plan somewhere amongst the chaos and I am hoping that very soon, out of ‘dem der ashes’, there will rise a kitchen.

I have the builders on task and today they are bringing in the electrician, rock breaker and plumber who are all coming to assess the site and quote. Therefore, hopefully (she says with her fingers crossed), by the end of the week,we should have a timeline for completion of my new workspace.

Am I a little bit excited about the prospect of having a dedicated space on site. Oh yeah! I am a little bit excited in the same way that the Pope is a little bit Catholic.

So what am I doing whilst my backyard looks as though it is is hosting The Hunger Games. I am cutting up fruit for this years Christmas puddings. Yes, I know, haven’t I just finished with the puddings. Yes, and now we start all over again. The feedback this year has been overwhelmingly positive, so I am getting geared up for an even bigger Xmas this year. Along with building cakes for the Wedding Expo in April. Oh…and in the middle of this, I am fulfilling orders. I still have a couple of spaces free in March and April, so if you need cake, I could very well be your girl.

Have a fabulous week.

So, after a busy few weeks, I have a lull in proceedings. What to do? My sensible head is telling me to get organised. My other head (old Tasmanian joke) is telling me to sit and play Angry Birds for just one more game.

Of course my sensible head is going to win (at least it will after my next game). To help it win I have come up with a plan. I am going to start designing my feature cake for the Wedding Expo on April 15. This cake needs to be perfect because it will come under the scrutiny of nearly every upcoming bride in our area. Not that I have a problem with perfect. Perfect is fine. Perfect I can do. But now that I have the ‘perfect’ bit out of the way,I am left with the decision as to whether I do a cake that is contemporary, a little bit left of field, or should I go with a crowd pleaser. I am so undecided. My heart is telling me to try something different, stick my neck out a wee bit as those are the cakes I love to design, but my head is saying ‘play it safe’, not everyone wants their cake to be the centerpiece of the wedding. For some reason, some brides believe they are. Go figure!

Maybe I need to do one of each. That would be the logical conclusion. And if so, I do need to start the planning now.

So, we are back to square one. Angry birds or getting organised.

Of course I will go with getting organised…at least I will after my next game.

Have a fab week.

This will be my first expo and I want everything to be perfect, so the only way that will happen is if I get organised.

Repeat that word again Felicity…ORGANISED.

To be honest, I have been very busy. Cake busy. So a very good busy. If you look under my Special Occasions page, you will note a few new ones have been added and there was also two wedding cakes that we squeezed in as well since we last spoke, and these are soon to be added to my website. Business is really starting to pick up and I have several exciting projects on for the upcoming week, which is a little bit exciting.

But for now, it is enough for you to know that I am back and I am still baking. I will leave you with one of my favourite cakes. I loved making this cake and I totally love the couple it was made for. Congratulations Emma and Marcus.

The council approval has arrived. They have said yes to the extension, so next week ‘we’ will begin work on a new commercial kitchen where moi will make all of her creations. So hopefully (fingers x’d) I will be able to move out of my cramped downstairs space with the circa 1969 oven and tiny bar fridge and spread my wings in a kitchen custom built to the task.

I know. I hear you. If it gets anymore exciting I might have to bring out the sniffing salts.

Business must be good, I hear you say.

Why yes it is, I reply.

But also, I am happily in possession of the most wonderful husband that supports me wholeheartedly in all of my endeavours (and there have been plenty). It was he who suggested this may be the best way to grow my business whilst still being able to be at home. So, we are now going to turn the below space into my work place, so I will keep you posted as to the progress.

By the way, you know the part where I mentioned where I mentioned that ‘we’ are going to build a commercial kitchen? You do know that is a collective ‘we’ don’t you, as it will be unlikely that I will break even a fingernail on the construction. I think our builder will probably ask me to stay off site as when it comes to construction I can be a wee bit of a liability. But that is another story for another blog.

I have spent most of my day admiring it from all angles. Now I cannot wait to pop a wedding cake onto its shiny surface.

‘HMMMMMMM’

But unfortunately, that will have to wait several weeks. In the meantime I guess I can keep wandering past, polishing it at my whim and fancy and just admiring myself in its glorious shine.

And because you asked, yes, the stand is available for my brides (or other occasions as needed). It can be wrestled from my clenched fingers for a refundable deposit of $100. Yes, that’s right, fully refundable. You can rest assured that if you bring my baby back to me in the same condition it left, your deposit will be returned to you…in the same condition. Silver’s not your thing (really! are you serious!) I do have other stands available upon request and the deposit varies depending on the stand (and my emotional attachment).

All you have to do is contact me via this site…but you know the drill.

Until next time, hopefully you get to have your cake and eat it too. Have a great week.

Okay, okay, I know the New Year’s salutations are a little late but celebrations just got a little away from me this year and this is the first chance I have had to sit down and ponder all things pertaining to cake. But now that we have entered 2012 and I have a wee lull in proceedings I would love to wish you all the best for the upcoming year. May it be one of good health, good friends and good times.

And obviously, great cake!

My 2012 is going to start with a break of just under two weeks. Although, let me clarify what I mean by ‘break’. What the next two weeks will consist of is some experimentation with polystyrene figurines, making up some mock cakes for the upcoming bridal expo, visiting with some brides and then I might even get a chance to test some new cake recipes. Not looking forward to the last one peeps as this year I may as well have applied the Xmas pudding directly to my waist and I am pretty sure tasting cake isn’t going to help me begin to move those extra kilos. Oops!

Anyway, never mind the poundage because after the break I am back into decorating with gusto with three exciting projects finishing off the first month of 2012. More on those as they are completed.

But enough about me (as if I hear you cry!). What are you up to in 2012. Does it promise to be even more exciting than last year. And if not…why? And if you are having trouble finding inspiration for 2012, just remember those words of wisdom from Alice in Wonderland. ”I can imagine at least six impossible things before breakfast.”

I will leave you now as I can see you are off to ponder impossible things. Have a fabulous week.
